In front of the mirror

What our reflection tells us

Sometimes we can find beauty in the simplicity of a concept, however, when we look beyond the superficial, we find depth of ideas, a way in which we can give it a perhaps more personal meaning.

Therefore, below I prepare a tour through an exhibition composed of 6 images, the work of the talented digital artist AraliaArt, who on this occasion shows us a work of art focused on mirrors.

What we see below is a semi-realistic presentation with great detail, we can see that the lighting highlights the features and expressions in an excellent way. It is not a work with a dark theme, but if colors in sober tones are used, even when flowers are a recurring decoration in the images, a serious atmosphere is maintained, avoiding being too colorful.

The slightly retro outfits beautifully accompany the aesthetics that together make me think of either a girls' school or a classic boarding school-style drama.

Despite the beauty of the presentation, at the beginning I mentioned: the simplicity of a concept, because what we see today has as its theme looking in the mirror.

something that many of us probably do more than once a day, but perhaps someone else wants to avoid it at all costs. And that's exactly where the interpretation of these pieces of art comes in.

In the following image, for example, we can see the reflection of a young woman, who, even when in front of the mirror, is not interested in what she sees, and rather she seems to make an effort to ignore it.

When I had the opportunity to analyze this image for the first time, I immediately thought that this could be understood as when we see in others some behavior or trait that we ourselves have, but we do not accept, because it is always easier to talk about someone else, even when we We reflect on him or her.

Later we can see an image, with a similar theme to the previous one, but with a different path, since what we see in it is a reflection that looks in the opposite direction to the young woman in front of the mirror.

This shows us that, perhaps at some point, the image we give to the world does not necessarily coincide with our true self, even to the point of being an opposite. Although when understanding it we could also describe it in a single sentence as "the reflection of your actions, but not your thoughts."

Finally we will comment on these 2 images as a duality. In the first image the gaze of the younger reflected shows a certain displeasure and indifference to what she sees in front of her, in fact I would say that it makes her uncomfortable. This is something of the most important thing that I highlight about this work, because in the image I interpret a reality that many of us live in our most vulnerable moments, and it is a lack of acceptance of what we reflect. Perhaps we are not satisfied with our appearance or even our public image.

But in contrast, the second image seems surprised, shows amazement in its gaze. This is the other side of the coin and precisely a good contrast.

After all, we have proof that we can, and should, find beauty in our reflection, a change in the way we see ourselves is what can completely change the story we live.

Probably for you, the meaning may be completely opposite to mine, however that is my purpose. Show you how far the meaning of this exhibition can go.

Please do not limit yourself by thinking that it is not necessary to give so much depth to works of digital art, the value of a work and the artist behind it is the result of what their art manages to convey to us, that's what they were created for, to communicate a message to us, and it's up to you if you dive into the sea or just watch from the shore.

Just like these works of digital art, our friend AraliaArt has endless excellent examples of talent. Visit her digital gallery, I share the link below, I hope you find among her works, a thousand stories that fascinate you.
